============================== LANdb 0.8x Frequently Requested Features ============================== At release time, I inevitably get a dozen or so emails from people who "really like LANdb, but need... added." This file intends to curb some of that, to let you know what's been requested, and which of those are being worked on. Before submitting a request, please make sure it isn't already in this file or the TODO. 1. Support for tracking hosts, workstations, servers, PC's, and toasters. - Work on this is underway, and has been for some time. It won't make it into 0.8x, but will appear very shortly in .9x. Everything will be done through SNMP. 2. Tracking MAC addresses. - Read #1 for this one too. Every thing with a Nic will be in the database. 3. A LANdb Glossary: keep all the terms associated with the project in a file somewhere. - Well... First off, almost everything in LANdb is common networking knowledge, and if you don't know it before using the app, it may not be for you to begin with. Second, documentation is something we've had a hard time with, since the code takes up so much time. It's a work in progress, but with a lower priority than the product itself. 4. What about connecting two switches together? How bout fibers and weird patch cables? - Support for distinction between trunking and non-trunking components will be in 0.9x, although I'm not sure where. 5. Support for distinguishing what's actually plugged into a particular port (server, workstation, another switch, etc). - Again, it'll be in 0.9x, but the code isn't actually there yet. 6. What's with these users? - User management is something being worked on heavily for 0.90 (in fact, you can already download development code that includes this). 7. What's with these users, Part II? - Many have asked "How the heck do I log in?" First of all, it's in the INSTALL file, so go there first. Second, on fresh installs, the option to add your admin user will be provided in the next release when installing through install.pl. If what you need isn't listed here, feel free to email me at fes@users.sourceforge.net to have your request put into the TODO, or displayed here. You can also post on the LANdb mailing list to put your idea(s) up for discussion, if you'd like.
